Letter from John Alders, Operations Director for docWebTRC
Dear Friends,
It seems that just about every 3 years, a new technology or a wave of new software comes to market and, in doing so, has direct and indirect consequences for your website. As your advocate, docWeb takes seriously our responsibility to help your website prosper and be an effective business asset.
Google has introduced a major new search algorithm, called Caffeine. With this new algorithm, Google takes into account several new factors in determining your search engine ranking; which of course determines how easily visitors will find you when searching online.
Some things that won’t be changing include the importance of fresh and meaningful content; which is why we so strongly encourage you to take advantage of your no-limits maintenance plans. Also not changing is the importance of having quality “back links” to your website. You can find many of your back links by reviewing the “referring sources” report that can be found in your web statistics provided by docWebTRC.
Each year, at this time, we review your website and usually update the copyright date. This year, in doing that review we’re adding several important features that will help you in the new Caffeine model.
1) We are re-visiting and updating all of your page descriptions and meta tags. While Keywords will no longer be a part of
what Google looks at, the page descriptions and meta tags can help supplement the content already on your website.
2)We are optimizing all your images. Google’s new algorithm will penalize slow loading web sites. Not every client will get optimized images - it will depend on several technical factors. But, rest assured that docWeb is committed to keeping your website fast and beautiful.
3)We are adding Analytics to every website. Some of our long term customers have not yet been upgraded to this high-end reporting tool and should see better reports during their next reporting cycle.
4)Each year, at this time, we review your website and usually update the copyright date. This year, in doing that review we’re adding several important features that will help you in the new Caffeine model.
Google (and others) are also introducing real-time search and personalized search results. These changes will radically increase the importance of some social media sites (Twitter/Facebook/etc.) in the search results returned for certain queries. Whether this affects you, whether you should venture into the world of “tweeting”, whether you need to fight back with Pay-Per-Click advertising is all still unfolding. Whatever your Internet marketing needs are, you can always talk to your project manager at docWebTRC to get sound answers and sage advice.
Social Media, Improved intelligence gathering, new media phones and a renewed interest in speed are all contributing to the changing environment. As your web advocate, we’ll continue to monitor these trends and proactively alert you of upcoming changes and opportunities.
All of us at docWebTRC wish you and your families a safe and happy winter and prosperous New Year.
